The DBS-2 Double Freedom gives Helldivers 2 players a close-range weapon that feels very different from a standard shotgun. For players deciding where to spend Helldivers 2 Super Credits, this premium primary is an unusual option because it is available through the Superstore rather than a regular Warbond. Introduced on December 2, 2025, it costs 400 Super Credits when it appears in the rotation.
The weapon's appeal comes from its ability to deliver enormous damage in a very short window. Instead of focusing on continuous crowd control, the Double Freedom is better suited to eliminating dangerous targets at close range. It can fire one shell at a time or discharge both barrels together, giving players a choice between conserving ammunition and maximizing immediate burst damage.
A single shell deals 840 ballistic damage, while Volley mode fires both barrels simultaneously for 1,680 burst damage. The weapon also provides Medium Armor Penetrating capability, which makes it useful against targets that require stronger penetration.
The ammunition system is deliberately limited. Only two shells are chambered at once, with 40 additional shells in reserve. If every attack uses both barrels, that reserve provides 20 complete volleys. A reload takes around 1.9 seconds, so ammunition management and timing are important parts of using the shotgun effectively.
The Double Freedom is most valuable when its damage is directed toward enemies that can quickly become a problem. Devastators, Brood Commanders, and Hive Guards are strong examples of targets that can justify spending valuable shotgun ammunition.
Its damage is not the only useful feature. The weapon also produces strong stagger and pushback, which can interrupt aggressive enemies and create some space. That extra breathing room can be particularly helpful when you need to reposition or prepare for another attack.
Despite its impressive damage, the Double Freedom is not designed to clear enormous groups of weak enemies. Two shells disappear quickly when a large swarm is approaching, and firing both barrels at minor targets can leave you without an answer for a tougher enemy.
Range is another serious limitation. The weapon has a very short effective range, with its large pellet spread causing damage to fall sharply as enemies move farther away. Getting close is necessary for maximum damage, but staying too close to a large group can make the following reload extremely risky.
Because the reload is such an important part of the weapon's rhythm, your armor choice deserves attention. Armor with the Siege Ready passive can increase primary weapon reload speed by 30 percent, helping reduce the vulnerable period between shots.
Light armor offers a different solution. Rather than trying to absorb pressure while the shotgun reloads, mobile players can retreat, reposition, and return once the weapon is ready. This approach fits the Double Freedom's high-risk design particularly well and makes its short range easier to manage.
The secondary weapon should handle enemies that are inefficient targets for the Double Freedom. High-capacity or crowd-clearing choices such as the Talon, Warrant, Verdict, and Crisper can help deal with weaker enemies while preserving primary ammunition.
This division of responsibilities makes the loadout much more practical. Use the secondary when several low-threat enemies are nearby, then bring out the Double Freedom when a high-value target enters effective range. Saving those powerful shots can make a noticeable difference during longer encounters.
Stratagems can also compensate for the shotgun's weaknesses. A Jump Pack gives you an emergency escape option when enemies close in, allowing you to create distance before completing a reload. That mobility is especially useful when the weapon's two-shell capacity leaves you temporarily exposed.
The standard Guard Dog Rover can provide additional assistance by thinning out nearby light enemies while you concentrate on tougher targets. It can also help cover the moments when the Double Freedom is unavailable during its reload.
The DBS-2 Double Freedom is easiest to appreciate when you stop expecting it to fill every combat role. Its enormous burst damage, Medium Armor Penetration, and powerful stagger make it excellent for selected close-range engagements, while its limited ammunition, short range, and reload vulnerability keep it from being a universal solution.
A thoughtful setup can balance those drawbacks. Let the Double Freedom handle priority targets, use your secondary for weaker enemies, and rely on mobility or support when the battlefield becomes crowded. With the right approach, its unusual design becomes a strength rather than a problem, while resources such as buy Helldivers 2 Samples can fit naturally into a broader progression strategy.
